Mwazaro beach is a very special part of the world. It is located 7 kms from Shimoni. In the ancient language of the coastal dwellers, Mwazaro means the "place of prayer". Prayers and sacrifices are still offered at the site of the sacred baobab tree. Ten years ago, Hans von Loesch discovered this paradise and built what is now the Mwazaro Beach Mangrove Lodge, directly on the sea, a romantic, unique location without match anywhere else on earth. You stay in either a coral house or a palm-thatched, rustic cottage with your own private veranda and enchanting sea view. Here, you can feel just as Robinson did! The beach
You will feel finely grained, snow-white sands beneath your feet. Relax in the shade of a palm tree or explore the surroundings with a stroll along Mwazaro beach.

The cuisine
Mwazaro's cuisine is absolutely unique and almost legendary in it's variety. Countless travel guides recommend the typical Zanzibar cuisine. The mangroves
You cannot fail to be impressed by a boat trip through the 46 square kilometers of fascinating mangrove swamps. Rare species of animals live in the mangroves and have made their homes here. The sheer variety of bird species in very impressive. Sometimes you may even see giant lizards and crocodiles at the River Raisin estuary which is a few kilometers from the Mwazaro Beach Mangrove Lodge.

The activities
A diving & snorkeling paradise awaits you in the nearby Kisite Marine Park. In January and February, you may experience whale sharks at first hand. Deep sea fishing is also available from Mwazaro Beach Mangrove Lodge.
